THIS PROGRAM IS FOR YMCA MEMBERS ONLY.

Our Mini Dolphins swim team is open to swimmers ages 5-8, or those new to competitive swimming. All swimmers must be able to complete one lap (25 yards) of a continuous and recognizable stroke without the need of flotation.

Mini Dolphins will practice 1 hour per day, 4 days per week. In order to make scheduling easier for parents, we will offer practice four days per week and parents can choose which days they wish to practice. Practice days are Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday starting at 6 pm. We also have practices Sunday at 10 am at the Wilkes-Barre YMCA pool. 

All  swim team practices will happen at the Wilkes-Barre Area High School pool located at 2021 Wolfpack Way, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705. The pool is located at the very left side of the building, with closest parking being available in Lot C.

In the event that the high school needs to cancel a single day of practice, practice may be able to be moved to the YMCA. As fees are season based, credits/refunds will not be given unless there are extenuating circumstances. All refund and credit requests can only be approved by the Aquatics Coordinator.

Our Killer Whales Swim Team is open to swimmers ages 9-18 who are able to swim 2500 yards per practice and have times close to or capable of making it to districts and beyond. Tryouts are required and will take place at our Open House on Saturday, September 21, or during the first week of practices the week of September 30th.

Killer Whales will practice 2 hours per day, 5 days per week. Practice times are dependent on the high school pool availability but will typically start at 5:30 PM.

Orcas will practice 1 1/2 hours per day, 4 days per week. In order to make scheduling easier for parents, we will offer practice four days per week and parents can choose which days they wish to practice. Greater Scranton YMCA is hosting a last chance swim meet on Sunday, February 16th for any time in the area to compete in. There are two session for the meet:

Session 1: Swimmers may enter a maximum of four (4) Individual Events, and two (2) Relays. Individual Events Include: 200 Free, 100 Free, 25 Free, 200 Back, 100 Back, 50 Back, 25 Back, 200 Breast, 100 Breast, 50 Breast, 25 Breast, 500 Free, 50 Free, 25 Fly, 50 Fly, 100 Fly, 200 Fly, 100 IM, 200 IM. Relays Include: 200 Medley Relay, 100 Medley Relay, 200 Free relay, 100 free relay. Warm ups will start at 10:00 a.m. and the session will start at 11:15 a.m.

Session 2: Swimmers may enter a maximum of two (2) Time Trial Individual Events, and one (1) Relay. Individual Events Include: 400 IM, 1000 Freestyle, 1650 Freestyle. Relays Include: 400 Free Relay. There will be a 10 minute warm-up at the conclusion of event #23 (200 Free Relay).

GSY is charging entry fees for each swimmer: $6.00 per Individual Event and $6 per Relay Swimmer ($24.00 per Relay). There is also a $6.00 per swimmer meet surcharge. Coach Erin will send one check to Diana Dempsey at Scranton for the meet. Please register online and pay the $6 surcharge fee by Friday, January 31st. All event payments will be due via check to the YMCA by Monday, February 3rd. Checks can be made out to Erin Dietrich, Swim Team Meet Dues, Wilkes-Barre YMCA (40 W Northampton St, Wilkes-Barre, PA, 18701).
